You can specify a surface element size and a low value for aspectio ratio (AR). Default A.R. is 30, which means that an element adjacent to a surface element (inside the volume), can be up to 30 times longer than the surface element. By specifying a low AR the element size will grow more slowly as you move inward into the volume from the surface that has maximum element size control.
Try reducing AR step by step. For example, start with 10, then move on to 8 or 5 etc. Be aware that specifying a too low AR may result in meshing problems and/or excessive number of elements.
The AR is changed under AutoGEM settings.
