A word of caution here: the document of Steven is used in aerospace and while it is very useful, it is (if I recall correctly) only valid for closely fitting pin-lug connections without out-of-plane loading conditions (as is common in aerospace, but much less so in other areas).
If you are going to lift the lug with some sort of hook, you will need to use different methods.
But still, the document shows different failure modes, so it gives a good direction on things you should check in your lug design.
